Mark Thornton Sermon: Rest   Scripture Reference: Luke 2:8-20 · Who were these shepherds? · These weren’t just random shepherds. · They were priests that protected the sheep and prepared the sheep to be sacrificed. ·The priests (shepherds) were never at rest. ·Why did the angels visit them? ·The angels came at night while they were working- tending to the sheep. ·The angels came to tell the shepherds (the priests) about the end of their works.   Scripture Reference: Romans 10:17 ·Faith comes by hearing. · There is a different shift in your hearing that happens when you “Hear” God’s word. · Misery loves company, ignorance won’t allow you to leave the graveyard.   Scripture Reference: Genesis 2: 15-24   · Freedom was God’s first commandment to man (Adam). · Freedom was found in God’s rest. · Adam was planted in God’s rest to cultivate the garden. · Adam operated like God when he was at rest. · Love operated in God’s rest. · Adam had full access to God. · Cultivation is done through speaking. · How do you cultivate yourself? · How do you speak to yourself? · Adam wasn’t looking for love because he wasn’t lonely. · God said it wasn’t good for man to be alone. · God realized man needed help (A Wife) even though man didn’t realize he needed help. · When Adam saw the woman, he spoke vision with purpose.   Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:1-3   · Nothing was created without light. · Man was created in light and God’s rest. · The angels and shepherds were shadows of what was yet to come-the completed work of Christ (The Light).   Scripture Reference: Hebrews 4:1-5   ·The Garden of Eden didn’t cover all of the Earth. · God gave Adam words to cultivate (Expand) the old garden. · God gave the Second Adam (Jesus) and US words to cultivate (Expand) the new garden (The Church).   What is the only thing that you SHOULD be afraid of? Answer: Not being in God’s rest. One Life isn’t a location, it is a truth. We are the church.
