WHAT YOU THINK
As he thinks in his heart, so is he.
PROVERBS 23:7
Y ou are what you think. That’s the essence of the message behind Proverbs 23:7. And it’s also the impulse behind the words of Philippians 4:8—“Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely … meditate on these things.” We don’t have to ponder long to realize that all those things describe the Lord and His blessings.
If, however, our thoughts focus on those things that are wrong—that are untrue, ignoble, unjust, impure, and ugly—then we will quickly find our hearts and lives headed in that same direction. Our view of the world very much affects how we live in and react to it. When we keep our thoughts fixed firmly on the goodness that comes from above, there is no room for evil thoughts to take root—and our lives will reflect what we think.
Lord, open my eyes to see all Your goodness, so I can live a life that adds Your loveliness to the world.
