CHRISTIAN COURSES

Everything You Need to Know

Why Christians Should Be Lifelong Learners

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he commissioned his disciples to go and make more disciples of all nations. A disciple is, according to the Lexham Bible Dictionary, is a student, pupil, or learner. It was a familiar concept in first-century Judaism—the “learner” or “student” would attach himself to a particular rabbi with the intent of learning everything the rabbi knew and becoming more like him.

All followers of Jesus are his disciples—and that means we should “attach” ourselves to him so that we continually learn from him. We do this primarily by reading and studying the Word of God.

But he also calls us to make more disciples.

This is why it’s critical for believers to be lifelong learners—to continually learn so that we can effectively disciple others. In addition to spending time in Scripture, Christians can learn more about Jesus and other related biblical topics by taking Christian courses—especially those taught by scholars and theologians who have spent years digging deep into Scripture and biblical topics so that they can effectively (and soundly) teach others.

Everything you need to know to get started

Whether you’re new to the faith, doing deep Bible study for the first time, trying to dig into a particular doctrine or a biblical language, or want to increase the biblical literacy of your congregation, online Christian courses are a solid learning option.

And the best part?

You can learn from some of the foremost seminary professors while feeding that inner desire to learn more about biblical topics that interest you from the comfort of your own home (or a coffee shop 😀).

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Who Christian Courses Are For

New Christians

Often new believers are excited to jump into their newfound faith with both feet, but they don’t know where to start. Christian courses can help answer some of the basic questions of the faith like: What is salvation? Can I trust the Bible? Who is God? Who is Jesus?

Seminary students

Perhaps there was an eschatology course you wanted to take while in seminary but just couldn’t fit in your schedule, or you took a class on Pauline Theology but never dug deep into the New Perspective on Paul. Christian courses are perfect for those lifelong learners who would continue in seminary indefinitely . . . if they could!

Small group leaders

Sometimes people are hesitant to lead a small group because they think they don’t know enough about the Bible to lead others. Christian courses can help undergird the leader or potential leader in Bible basics—but they can also help equip experienced leaders with the nuts and bolts to lead better.

Pastors

There’s an awful lot that pastors need to know. Courses on how to prepare sermons or preach expositorily are a great foundation, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg for pastors doing the everyday work of ministry. Many online Christian courses get into the weeds of biblical preaching that seminaries don’t—but they also dive deep into topics like discipleship or preparing a sermon using Bible software.

Missionaries

Serving the Lord locally or overseas doesn’t mean you are 100 percent prepared for the call—often, missionaries feel quite the opposite. Christian courses related to mission-work, like current issues in missions, the philosophy and practice of urban ministry, and ministry in multiethnic contexts, gives missionaries the added foundation they need to serve well—and for the long haul.

Christian counselors

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been professionally trained in counseling or you’re a lay leader wondering how you ended up sitting across someone seeking help and pouring their heart out to you. Christian courses can equip you in the basics of counseling or in specific areas—like marriage and family or coming alongside those who’ve been impacted by domestic or sexual abuse.

Everyone

No matter what you want to study, you can find a course that fits your interest taught by a respected instructor. Whether you want to brush up on the basics or dig into some meaty topics, there’s something for everyone.
The Christian faith is not a finite course of study for the front-end of adulthood. Our mindset shouldn’t be to first do our learning and then spend the rest of our lives drawing from that original deposit of knowledge. Rather, ongoing health in the Christian life is inextricably linked to ongoing learning.
