CHRISTIAN EBOOKS

An introduction to Christian ebooks

Ebooks have become increasingly popular. According to PRWeb, ebook sales in 2020 rocketed 22% higher than the previous year, and now they continue to account for more than one out of every six books sold.

Christian ebooks have enjoyed the same spike in popularity, and readers can select from the same vast variety as with non-Christian digital books. You can find Christian fiction and nonfiction ranging from a fun weekend read to deep dives into topics that can transform your daily life and spiritual walk.

Why Choose Digital Books

Variety

You can find ebooks of every type, length, tone, and reading level . . . ebooks just released and beloved favorites . . . books by well-respected Christian authors, secular authors, and everyone in between. Your local library or bookstore may boast the beloved smell of printed books, but it can’t beat the variety ebooks offer.

24/7 Accessibility

You can buy a new ebook anytime, day or night, and start reading it instantly. Even if you only have a minute or two to read, you can pull out your phone, tablet, or laptop and dig in.

Savings

Digital books typically cost less than printed books, bringing you cost savings. And they bring space savings too. Since they don’t take up any room in your home, even minimalists can still savor an ever-growing library of 100s or 1,000s of ebooks.

Safety

Your ebooks are stored safe in the cloud, so even if a pipe bursts and floods your home or a tornado hurtles through, you don’t lose your library. (You don’t risk losing books you’ve lent out, either, or misplacing them during a move.)

Usability

It’s easier to get more out of your books. Since you can highlight in ebooks, take notes in ebooks, and take ebooks anywhere, the next time you need to look up that fantastic story or mind-blowing quotation, you don’t have to put it on your to-do list and wait until you get home.
A number of years ago I decided to go all-in with ebooks. . . . I sold some of my books, gave the rest away, and have pretty much stayed the course. Today I have perhaps 50 printed books and several thousand electronic.

Who Can Benefit from Christian Ebooks?

New Christians

Often new believers are excited to jump into their newfound faith with both feet, but they don’t know where to start. Christian ebooks can help answer some of the basic questions of the faith and help readers understand elements of spiritual growth and a thriving walk with God.

Everyday Christians

No matter how long someone has been a Christian—whether weeks or decades—no one has everything figured out or knows all there is to know about living for the Lord. Christian books help them learn from other Christians, grow in leadership, and more.

Small group leaders

Sometimes people are hesitant to lead a small group because they think they don’t know enough about the Bible to lead others. Christian ebooks can help undergird the leader or potential leader in Bible basics—and they can also help equip experienced leaders to lead even better.

Pastors

Pastors spend a lot of time in God’s Word preparing sermons, but that’s far from their only responsibility. Books can encourage them in their pastoral ministry, help equip them to lead their church well, and more. Plus, they can recommend Christian books to their members to help in their spiritual formation.

Parents

Parenting comes with a unique set of challenges, and it can feel lonely at times. With ebooks written by other Christians who’ve sought to raise their families for the Lord, parents can find refreshment in common experiences and help to face familiar challenges.

Where to Find the Best Christian Ebooks

Strategies for Reading Your Digital Books

Make a list

This method is so simple it gets overlooked. Look through all the titles in your digital library. (You’ll probably find books you forgot about!) To keep your books from being “out of sight, out of mind,” make a list of the top 10 or 20 you’d like to read and keep it somewhere prominent, either as a note in your phone, a section on your to-do list, or a physical note you see often. With some ebook readers (like Faithlife Ebooks), you can add books to a “read later” list right inside the app.

Plan ahead

Reading more is something many adults would love to accomplish, yet reading loses place to everything else beckoning to be done. For help with following through, make a simple plan. For example, determine to read just one page a day. Or decide to read for 10 minutes every day after you brush your teeth at night. Whatever you decide, don’t bite off too large of a time commitment, and make sure it’s easy to remember.

Map it out

Once you’ve decided which books you want to read, map out when you want to read them and add the books to your calendar. You can make this generic, with just the book name and the dates you’ll devote to finishing it. Or you can get specific by figuring out how many chapters or pages you need to read per day and marking that down. Alternatively, see if your reading app has the capability to automatically create a reading plan for you. (Faithlife Ebooks and Logos Bible Software do.)

Invite a friend

Invite a friend to read along with you. Accountability is helpful, and it’s fun to talk about what you’re reading. If your reading app allows you to create a reading plan, see if it will allow you to share it with someone else so you can stay on the same page. Also check to see if your app will allow you to share your notes and highlights—that way, you can show what stood out to you in real time as you read along. (With Faithlife Ebooks and Logos Bible Software, you can do all of the above.)
