Over the centuries, the Church has only granted the title of “Doctor of the Church” to 36 saints. It is a title given to saints who have been recognized as having made substantial and significant contributions to theology and doctrine, such as St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, St. Anselm, and St. Hilary of Poitiers. St. John Eudes, canonized in 1925, is under consideration to join this group of thirty-two men and four women, as of December 2016.
The St. John Eudes Collection (8 Vols.) includes several of Eudes’ larger works, such as his immensely important The Admirable Heart of Mary, which he completed only a month before he died in 1680, and also The Life and Kingdom of Jesus in Christian Souls, which went through nearly twenty printings during his lifetime. Two biographies of St. John Eudes also find a place in the collection to help reader learn more about his life and ministry.
