Medieval and Mythological Bestiary Studies (6 vols.)
Thomas Wright; Albert Stanburrough Cook; James Hall Pitman; …
Bestiaries were profoundly dynamic teaching tools in the Middle Ages. Compendiums of animals—both real and fantastic, wild and domestic—their purpose was to provide information about the natural world, to draw moral examples from animals’ behavior, and to reveal their mystical meaning. Each animal was viewed as having its own special significance—a reflection of how the Word of God was revealed in all creation. The animals present in medieval bestiaries were also placed in church architecture and iconography as visual representations of teachings. Each animal's multifaceted symbolism was a reminder of God’s presence, grace, and faithfulness.

The Life of William Cowper
Thomas Wright
The Life of William Cowper deals exhaustively with the poet’s life, compiling not only the various discoveries of previous biographies but also a large number of previously unavailable facts. Wright had access to the whole of Cowper’s correspondence and was able to read it in chronological order, which no previous biographer was able to do. The biography begins with Cowper’s birth in 1731, traces his early education, gives an account of the three years Cowper “misspent” working in an attorney’s office, and continues through all of Cowper’s travels. Cowper’s struggle with depression is explored in depth, as is his relationship with John Newton and with his “adopted” family, the Unwins.

Isaac Watts and Contemporary Hymn-Writers
Thomas Wright
In writing Isaac Watts and Contemporary Hymn-Writers, Thomas Wright’s goal was to give a clear and concise biography of Isaac Watts. In his opinion, other biographers gave a dull portrait of the man known as the “Father of English Hymnody.” Wright claims his aim was “to show how the study of his life can be of real value to us at the present day.” This resource includes previously unrecorded and unpublished facts, letters, images, and photographs.
