Why study the Old Testament? More people accept the Old Testament than all other religious writings combined. Jews, Christians, and Muslims all find their beginnings in the Old Testament. We should study it for at least two reasons. First, our Father in heaven has not changed (James 1:17). The God of the New Testament is exactly the same as He was in the Old Testament. He has always been, and will always be, the holy God of justice and love. Second, the Old Testament gives the background to understand the New. For example, John the Baptist calls Jesus “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). The Old Testament enables us to understand this. In all, the New Testament refers to the Old more than 600 times! Digging into this study, you will meet interesting people like Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and his 12 sons, Moses, Joshua, and Ruth.
