The Foremost Problems of Contemporary Dogmatics was a series of lectures delivered at the Free University shortly after Herman Bavinck moved to Amsterdam in 1902. He proceeds from unity to diversity—on where the Christian church agrees to the areas where it differs. It is apologetic and evangelistic, ecumenical and Reformed, and historical and theological in scope. Following Bavinck’s outline, John Bolt has reconstructed those last five sections on the basis of his extensive knowledge of Bavinck’s work, culling Bavinck’s other writings, in both Dutch and English, to summarize his teachings.
