Shedding light on the northwestern branch of the Semitic family of languages, of which Biblical Hebrew is a member. Because of the relatively small size of the corpus of Biblical Hebrew, scholars turn to other languages in the Northwest Semitic family to understand the Hebrew Bible. These languages include Ugaritic, Aramaic, and Phoenician-Punic. The seven volumes examine the book of Job, the Aramaic Sefire Inscriptions, the Genesis Apocryphon from the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a catalog of Punic-Phoenician personal names.
