From the Beginning: The Mission and Vocation of the Family in the Contemporary World
Michael G. Sirilla
The 2015 Ordinary General Synod of Bishops addressing the vocation and mission of the family in the Church and in the contemporary world presents a remarkable opportunity to develop the Church’s understanding of the Sacrament of Marriage and its wide-reaching effect on individuals, families, and society. On September 8, 2015, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, the Cardinal Patronus of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, delivered a keynote address at Franciscan University addressing some of the concerns of the synod—particularly the pastoral response to divorced and remarried Catholics. Following his address, Cardinal Burke was joined by eight panelists from various fields of theology and philosophy who spoke on various aspects of the Church teaching on the indissolubility of marriage and the scriptural and historical basis for this teaching.

Thomistic Ressourcement Series (18 vols.)
Matthew Levering; Reinhard Hütter; Thomas Joseph White; …
In the mid-twentieth century, a group of leading Catholic theologians—including Henri de Lubac, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Yves Congar—began a theological ressourcement, that is a “return to the sources.” Their aim was simple: to foster a spiritual renewal of the church through a return to the sources of scripture, the Early Church Fathers, and the medieval scholastics such as St. Thomas Aquinas. The Thomistic Ressourcement Series from Catholic University of America Press boldly carries this tradition into the twenty-first century. Written by some of today’s leading Thomistic scholars from around the world, these volumes tackle a wide variety of philosophical, dogmatic, and scriptural topics rooted in the writings and thought of one of the towering theological intellects of Christian history. Together, these texts provide accessible introductions on key Christian beliefs for scholars and the general reader alike.

The Ideal Bishop: Aquinas's Commentaries on the Pastoral Epistles (Thomistic Ressourcement Series)
Michael G. Sirilla
St. Thomas Aquinas's commentaries on the Pastoral Epistles are distinctive and overlooked theological resources. These commentaries provide invaluable insights into the exigencies of the exercise of the episcopal office in bringing about the spiritual perfection of the faithful in Christ. The Ideal Bishop includes a review of the theology of the episcopacy found in St. Thomas's principal contemporaries including Peter Lombard, St. Albert the Great, and St. Bonaventure of Bagnoregio. It also provides a conspectus of the same in the integrated corpus of Aquinas along with an introduction to St. Thomas's lectures on the PE, their dating, the provenance of manuscripts, and their method of theological development. But the heart of this book is an examination of the theology and spirituality of the episcopacy found in the lectures on 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus. Particular attention is devoted to Aquinas's treatment of the nature, purpose, requisite virtues, disqualifying vices,...
