Overview

This nine-volume collection presents the eloquent writings of Anglican monk and priest Dom Gregory Dix. In his lifetime, Dix was many things: liturgical scholar, Anglican Benedictine monk, priest, historian, papalist, and prolific writer. His writing was based on apostolic traditions, early church history, and the works of Justin Martyr, Hippolytus of Rome, and the Syriac Liturgy of Addai and Mari. It flowed from a life of service and study. Dix was also an ecclesiastical politician and Anglican papalist. He strongly defended the Church of England, while also seeking reunion with the Holy See. These convictions, coupled with an engaging voice and a dedication to historical research, are the backbone of his work. Opening with the magisterial Shape of the Liturgy and supported by shorter elaborations on specific doctrines and historical positions of the church, this collection contains Dix’s most important works in print. This volume is a study of the early church and the apostolic tradition.
