Singing the praises of God is justly regarded as one of the most delightful and beneficial parts of worship. In addition to the spiritual benefits of prayer and hearing the Word of God, worship calls into action the heart and mind of the Christian believer. To accomplish these goals throughout the Lutheran churches of America, this hymnal was compiled by the General Synod to serve as a permanent book delivering classical excellence, scriptural basis, and a devotional spirit.
