In this encyclical letter, Pope Benedict XV looks to the children of central Europe two years after the conclusion of the devastating First World War and one year after his encyclical Paterno iam diu on the same subject. In this letter, he praises the fact that his previous supplication for aid to these suffering children did not fall on deaf ears. However, the pope recognizes that the generosity—although commendable and appreciated—has still not been adequate to meet the greatest needs.
