The Theology of the Parables

Why did Jesus teach in parables? This is the question his first disciples asked him, and it is a question we do well to respond to even today. In this brief treatise, Henry James Coleridge looks at Jesus’ own answer to this question and how the parables fit into Jesus’ teaching as a whole. Coleridge also includes a helpful chart for devotional reading that pairs each of the parables with the Lenten Gospel reading of the day from the pre-Vatican II Catholic Lectionary.
