Overview

This book of historical writings expands ideas introduced in America's Providential History. Reading primary source materials is the best way to learn of the faith and worldview of America's founders. These writings show how the Founders had a Christian philosophy of government, they understood the divine purpose of civil government, and they knew that government begins internally in the heart of man with the ability to govern his own life. Over 25 selections including: Columbus' Christian Character and Divine Mission; The Siege of Leyden, Holland (1574); The Fast and Thanksgiving Days of New England; Christianity the Key to the Character and Career of Washington; Election Day in Early America; Letter To A Young Gentleman Commencing His Education by Noah Webster; Letters of John Quincy Adams to His Son on the Bible and Its Teachings. About the Editor Stephen K. McDowell is President of the Providence Foundation and has taught inspiring seminars throughout the United States as well as in Asia, South America, Australia, and Africa. He has trained thousands of people from 70 countries, consulted with numerous government officials, assisted in writing political documents and starting political parties, and helped establish classes on godly reformation in numerous churches. He has authored and co-authored several books and videos. After obtaining a B.S. in Physics and a M.S. in Geology, Stephen went on to work in the ministry. He pastored churches for six years before moving to Charlottesville to work with Mark Beliles in starting the Providence Foundation. He and his wife, Beth, have four children.
