Digital Logos Edition
This quarter’s Study Themes are: God Is . . . Our names are important to us. The first question we often ask a person is, “What is your name?” As we get to know people, their names take on deeper significance. Their names become more than just words on a name tag; they bring to mind the personality and character of the person. Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed different aspects of His holy character, and several names captured the essence of His character. We will look at six of these names in the context in which they were given. These six names will give us a glimpse to the infinite character of our loving God, and we will discover who He is in our lives. Stand Up: How to Fight Injustice We live in a world of injustice. We’ve seen great injustice played out on the world stage, but we know injustice on a personal level too. Whether it’s an incredibly grievous act against us or a minor slight, we know firsthand the unfairness of life. But how do we respond? Do we just passively accept what happens to us and around us? The book of Esther offers a different approach. In a time of great injustice against their own people, Mordecai and Esther rose to the occasion and took a stand. It was a potentially costly stand, but it was the right one. As we look at their lives, we see a model for how we can live for Christ as we stand up for others. The Herschel Hobbs Commentary is designed for group leaders and group members who desire a more extensive exposition of the Bible passages in LifeWay’s Bible Studies for Life series. Based on the King James Version of the Bible, The Herschel Hobbs Commentary can be used with all major modern English translations.
