Patrick Schreiner’s Acts commentary is a richly theological and narratively sensitive exploration of the early church’s origins under the rule of the ascended Messiah. Instead of offering a history-heavy or grammatically meticulous commentary, Schreiner focuses on the canonical, symbolic, and ecclesial significance of Acts, writing for pastors, teachers, and engaged lay readers. He interprets Acts through seven theological themes—God’s orchestration, Christ’s reign, the Spirit’s empowerment, the Word’s advance, salvation’s spread, the church’s formation, and the church’s mission. Schreiner’s figural reading of Acts reveals deeper connections across the canon, such as Pentecost’s links to Isaiah and Babel’s redemption. His excursuses on the ascension and the law clarify major interpretive tensions. With extensive tables comparing Peter and Paul, temple imagery, and prophetic echoes, Schreiner illuminates the text’s rich theological texture. He blends Reformed insights with careful canonical awareness, showing how Acts invites readers into the church’s story as Spirit-empowered witnesses to the triune God. Accessible, imaginative, and deeply rooted in Scripture, this volume is a joy to read. Schreiner opens Acts for the church—not just as a past event, but as a living word. Highly recommended.
