Overview

The Ascension of Isaiah is an important but neglected apocalypse from the early second century CE. Its author wrote at a time when charismatic prophecy was falling into decline and when the experience of oppression from the Roman government was causing deep problems for pious Christians. He responded by providing assurance about the promised parousia and also by offering theoretical attempt to explain how the heavenly Christ had defeated the cosmic powers who inspired hatred of the Christians.

    The last sentence of the description of this product says its a commentary but every other part of the description speaks about the Ascension of Isaiah, not the commentary of same. Since this product does not repeat/include the verses prior to its commentary, and since Logos has no English version of the "Ascension" of Isaiah the purchaser is left with a commentary without a path to get the text. "The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament in English" includes the first five chapters of the text, called the "Martyrdom of Isaiah" but the last six chapters are not in that one. Some excuse for this is offered in chapter one of the commentary however that same comment offers 1985 Gibb as preferred version of the text....so if Knight recongized this as an issue, why didnt he help out by including the text into the commentary? Or, why can't Logos provide a resource to the last chapters of the text past those in Martyrdom?
