John Henry Hobart was the frank, fierce, and fearless third Episcopal bishop of New York. He came into a starving, stagnant post-revolution Episcopal Church, and brought a fire and passion for growth and education that founded two colleges, wrote several books, and led him on a breathlessly paced pastoral circuit that caused a slow decline in his health, and death at the age of 54. These collected works capture his zeal for the Church and his desire to see the tools necessary for a fulfilling faith in the hands of the general public. These volumes provide a prominent historical perspective on the significance of Church sacraments, fasts, and festivals, a look at how they are best observed, and collections of prayers and blessings for diverse situations.
