Jesus in Psalm 89 | Jesús en el Salmo 89
"And He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms concerning Me." (Luke 24:44)
As we continue our journey to discover Jesus in the psalms, today we will look at Psalm 89, to discover Messiah Jesus... son of David, God's firstborn, King forever on David's throne.
Psalm 89:3-4 - Messiah will come from the lineage of David
"I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David My servant, Your seed will I establish for ever, and build up Your throne to all generations. Selah."

"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."
(Matthew 1:1)
"And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." (Matthew 21:8-9)
Jesus is called the Son of David fourteen times in the New Testament. On Palm Sunday, the term was used to proclaim Jesus' kingly, royal, lineage and office... on the day that He presented Himself to the people as Messiah King.
Psalm 89:26 - Messiah will call God His Father
"He shall cry to Me, You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation."

"At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father; for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things are delivered unto Me of My Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him." (Matthew 11:25-27)
The New Testament shows that Jesus often referred to God as His Father. Some estimates put the number at 70 times or so.
Psalm 89:27 - Messiah Jesus the Firstborn and King of Kings
"Also I will make Him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth."

"And He is head of the Body, the church: Who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have preeminence. " (Colossians 1:18)
"For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." (Romans 8:29)
"...and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood," (Revelation 1:5 NKJV)
The Bible is not just an ordinary book; but, it is the wonderful, seamless revelation of God's love and plan for man from beginning to end.
"...If you continue in My word, then are you My disciples indeed, And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-2)

Mientras continuamos nuestro viaje para descubrir a Jesús en los salmos, hoy miraremos el Salmo 89, para descubrir al Mesías Jesús... hijo de David, primogénito de Dios, Rey por siempre en el trono de David.
Salmo 89:3-4 - El Mesías vendrá del linaje de David
"He hecho un pacto con mis elegidos, he jurado a David mi siervo, que estableceré tu descendencia para siempre y edificaré tu trono para todas las generaciones. Selah".

"Y una gran multitud extendió sus vestidos en el camino; otros cortaron ramas de los árboles y las esparcieron por el camino. Y las multitudes que iban delante y las que iban detrás gritaban diciendo: "Hosanna al Hijo de David: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor; Hosanna en las alturas". (Mateo 21:8-9)
Jesús es llamado el Hijo de David catorce veces en el Nuevo Testamento. El Domingo de Ramos, el término se usó para proclamar el linaje y el oficio real de Jesús... ...el día en que se presentó al pueblo como el Rey Mesías.
Salmo 89:26 - El Mesías llamará a Dios su Padre
"Él clamará a mí, Tú eres mi padre, mi Dios, y la roca de mi salvación."

"En ese momento Jesús respondió y dijo: Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas a los sabios y prudentes, y se las has revelado a los niños. Así es, Padre, porque así te pareció bien. Todas las cosas me han sido entregadas por mi Padre; y nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar". (Mateo 11:25-27)
El Nuevo Testamento muestra que Jesús a menudo se refería a Dios como su Padre. Algunos cálculos estiman que el número es 70 veces más o menos.
Salmo 89:27 - El Mesías Jesús el Primogénito y Rey de Reyes
"También lo haré mi primogénito, más alto que los reyes de la tierra."

"Porque a quien conoció de antemano, también lo predestinó a ser conformado a la imagen de su Hijo para ser el primogénito entre muchos hermanos". (Romanos 8:29)
"...y de Jesucristo, el testigo fiel, el primogénito de entre los muertos, y el gobernante de los reyes de la tierra. Al que nos amó y nos lavó de nuestros pecados con su propia sangre".
La Biblia no es sólo un libro ordinario, sino que es la maravillosa e ininterrumpida revelación del amor y el plan de Dios para el hombre desde el principio hasta el final.
"...Si permanecéis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos, y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres." (Juan 8:31-2)
Jesus in Psalm 16 | Jesús en el Salmo 16
You will not let Your Holy One see decay
Psalm 16:8-11
"I have set the LORD always before me: because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also shall rest in hope. For you will not leave my soul in hell; neither will You suffer Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life: in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
In this psalm by David, the world translated "hell" is the Hebrew word sheol, which refers to the realm or place of the dead and is also translated "grave" elsewhere... and the word translated "corruption" refers to the decay associated with the grave. Who is this "Your Holy One"? We will let the Holy Spirit through Luke remove any doubts.
Jesus was raised from the dead in fulfillment of Psalm 16
Acts 13:26-39
"God has fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written the second psalm, You are My Son, this day have I begotten You. And as concerning that He raised Him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, He said on this wise, I give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore He said also in another psalm, You shall not suffer Your Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: But He, whom God raised again, saw no corruption." (verses 33-37)
God's Holy One, that the grave could not hold or conquer, was indeed Messiah Jesus... yet another glimpse of God's Son and marvelous plan for man in the Psalms.
"And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Revelation 1:17-18)

No dejarás que tu Santo vea la decadencia
Salmo 16:8-11
"He puesto al Señor siempre delante de mí: porque está a mi derecha, no me moveré. Por eso mi corazón se alegra, y mi gloria se regocija; mi carne también descansará en la esperanza. Porque no dejarás mi alma en el infierno, ni permitirás que tu Santo vea la corrupción. Me mostrarás el camino de la vida: en tu presencia hay plenitud de gozo; a tu derecha hay placeres para siempre".
En este salmo de David, el mundo traducido "infierno" es la palabra hebrea sheol, que se refiere al reino o lugar de los muertos y también se traduce "tumba" en otro lugar... y la palabra traducida "corrupción" se refiere a la decadencia asociada con la tumba. ¿Quién es este "Tu Santo"? Dejaremos que el Espíritu Santo a través de Lucas elimine cualquier duda.
Jesús fue levantado de entre los muertos en cumplimiento del Salmo 16
Hechos 13:26-39
"Dios nos ha cumplido lo mismo a nosotros, sus hijos, al resucitar a Jesús, como está escrito en el segundo salmo: Eres mi hijo, hoy te he engendrado. Y en cuanto a que lo levantó de entre los muertos, ya no para volver a la corrupción, dijo en este sentido, te doy las seguras misericordias de David. Por eso dijo también en otro salmo: No permitirás que tu Santo vea la corrupción. Porque David, después de haber servido a su propia generación por la voluntad de Dios, se durmió, fue puesto a sus padres y vio la corrupción: Pero él, a quien Dios resucitó, no vio corrupción". (versículos 33-37)
El Santo de Dios, que la tumba no pudo contener o conquistar, era en realidad el Mesías Jesús...otro vistazo al Hijo de Dios y al maravilloso plan para el hombre en los Salmos.
"Y cuando lo vi, caí a sus pies como muerto. Y puso su mano derecha sobre mí, diciéndome: "No temas, soy el primero y el último": Soy el que vive y estaba muerto, y he aquí que vivo para siempre, Amén, y tengo las llaves del infierno y de la muerte." (Apocalipsis 1:17-18)
Jesus in Joshua | Jesús en Josué
"Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back side of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
And the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and behold the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said Here am I.
And He said, Draw not nigh hither: put off your shoes from off your feet; for the place whereon you stand is holy ground." (Exodus 3:1-5)
As God speaks to Moses out of the burning bush, He tells Moses to "put off your shoes from off your feet; for the place whereon you stand is holy ground." In today's passage from Joshua, we will see another "holy ground" incident where the pre-incarnate Son of God appears to Joshua on the outskirts of Jericho.
Jesus... Commander of the army of the LORD at Jericho
"And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and, behold, a Man over against him with His sword drawn in His hand: and Joshua went to Him, and said to Him, Are You for us, or for our adversaries?
And He said, Nay; but as Commander of the army of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and said to Him, What does my Lord say to His servant?
Then the Commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy. And Joshua did so." (Joshua 5:13-15)
This was not just an ordinary angelic appearance, as angels are our fellow servants and will not accept worship (Revelation 22:8-9). And, like Moses at the burning bush, Joshua is told to remove his sandal, "for the place where you stand is holy." Since no man has seen God the Father at any time (John 1:18), this Holy Commander gives us another example of a Christophany, the pre-incarnate appearance of the eternal Son of God in the Old Testament.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1)

"Moisés cuidó el rebaño de Jetro su suegro, el sacerdote de Madián, y condujo el rebaño a la parte trasera del desierto, y llegó al monte de Dios, hasta Horeb.
Y el Ángel de Jehová se le apareció en una llama de fuego de en medio de una zarza; y mirando, vio que la zarza ardía en fuego, y la zarza no se consumía.
Y Moisés dijo: Ahora me apartaré y veré este gran espectáculo, por qué la zarza no se ha quemado.
Y cuando el Señor vio que se apartaba para ver, Dios lo llamó de en medio de la zarza y dijo: Moisés, Moisés. Y dijo: "Aquí estoy".
Y dijo: "No te acerques aquí; quítate el calzado de los pies, porque el lugar donde estás es tierra santa". (Éxodo 3:1-5)
Mientras Dios le habla a Moisés desde la zarza ardiente, le dice a Moisés "quítate el calzado de tus pies, porque el lugar donde estás es tierra santa". En el pasaje de hoy de Josué, veremos otro incidente de "tierra santa" donde el Hijo de Dios preencarnado se le aparece a Josué en las afueras de Jericó.
Jesús... Comandante del ejército del Señor en Jericó
"Y sucedió que cuando Josué estaba junto a Jericó, levantó los ojos y miró, y he aquí un hombre frente a él con la espada desenvainada en su mano; y Josué fue hacia él y le dijo: ¿Estás a favor nuestro o de nuestros adversarios?
Y él respondió: No; pero como comandante del ejército de Jehová he venido ahora. Y Josué se postró sobre su rostro en tierra, y adoró, y le dijo: ¿Qué dice mi Señor a su siervo?
Entonces el comandante del ejército del SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Quítate la sandalia del pie, porque el lugar donde estás es santo. Y Josué lo hizo". (Josué 5:13-15)
Esto no fue sólo una apariencia angélica ordinaria, ya que los ángeles son nuestros compañeros de servicio y no aceptan la adoración (Apocalipsis 22:8-9). Y, como Moisés en la zarza ardiente, se le dice a Josué que se quite la sandalia, "porque el lugar donde estás es santo". Dado que ningún hombre ha visto a Dios Padre en ningún momento (Juan 1:18), este Santo Comandante nos da otro ejemplo de una Cristófanía, la aparición preencarnada del eterno Hijo de Dios en el Antiguo Testamento.
"En el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios." (Juan 1:1)
2020-10-08 Jesus in the Book of Ruth | Jesús en el Libro de Rut
"If your brother be waxen poor, and has sold away some of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold." (Leviticus 25:25)
"If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her.
And it shall be, that the firstborn which she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel." (Deuteronomy 25:5-6)
Under the Law of Moses, a relative, known as a kinsman redeemer, could redeem his kinsman's property when in overwhelming debt; or, provide an heir to a childless widow to preserve the family name. It is this principle of "kinsman redeemer" that is another "type" or foreshadowing of the role that Jesus would fulfill. One excellent example of a kinsman redeemer can be found in the Book of Ruth.
Ruth is Widowed and Accepts the Lord as her God
Ruth 1
"And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.
The LORD grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
"And she said, Behold, your sister-in-law is gone back to her people, and to her gods: return you after your sister-in-law.
And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you: for whither you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge: your people shall be my people, and your God my God:"
Ruth and her sister-in-law were both Gentiles from Moab. Ruth's sister-in-law had decided to go back to her old life and gods; but, Ruth chose to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi and follow the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as her God... similar to Rahab the harlot had done at Jericho.
Enter Boaz, the kinsman redeemer
Ruth 2
"There was a relative of Naomi's husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz.
So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor. And she said to her, Go, my daughter.
Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.:"
Boaz agrees to be kinsman redeemer
Ruth 3
"And now, my daughter fear not; I will do to thee all that you require: for all the city of my people does know that you are a virtuous woman.
And now it is true that I am your near kinsman; howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto you the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to you, then will I do the part of a kinsman to you, as the LORD lives: lie down until morning." (verses 11-13)
Naomi had sent Ruth to Boaz to entreat him to be kinsman redeemer. As an honorable man, he was willing to do his kinsman duty.
Boaz redeems Naomi's husband's land and takes Ruth as wife as well
Ruth 4
"Then said Boaz, What day you buy the field of the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance: redeem you my right to yourself; for I cannot redeem it."
"And Boaz said to the elders, and to all the people, You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: you are witnesses this day."
"So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son,"
"And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David."
Boaz not only redeemed the land of Naomi's Jewish husband; but, also redeemed the Gentile Ruth as well... just as, one day, Messiah Jesus would be Redeemer for both Jew and Gentile. We have been adopted by the Father and redeemed from a sin debt that we could not possibly pay by our kinsman redeemer Jesus Christ.

"Si tu hermano es pobre, y ha vendido algo de su posesión, y si alguno de sus parientes viene a redimirlo, entonces él redimirá lo que su hermano vendió." (Levítico 25:25)
"Si los hermanos viven juntos, y uno de ellos muere, y no tiene hijos, la mujer del muerto no se casará fuera con un extraño; el hermano de su marido entrará en ella, y la tomará como esposa y cumplirá con el deber del hermano del marido para con ella.
Y será que el primogénito que ella dé a luz sucederá en el nombre de su hermano muerto, para que su nombre no sea sacado de Israel." (Deuteronomio 25:5-6)
En virtud de la Ley de Moisés, un pariente, conocido como pariente redentor, podía redimir los bienes de su pariente cuando se encontraba en una deuda abrumadora; o bien, proporcionar un heredero a una viuda sin hijos para preservar el nombre de la familia. Este principio de "pariente redentor" es otro "tipo" o prefiguración del papel que Jesús cumpliría. Un excelente ejemplo de un pariente redentor se puede encontrar en el Libro de Rut.
Rut es viuda y acepta al Señor como su Dios
Ruth 1
"Y Noemí dijo a sus dos nueras: Id, volved cada una a casa de su madre: el Señor os trate bien, como vosotros tratasteis a los muertos y a mí.
Que el Señor os conceda que encontréis descanso, cada una en la casa de su marido. Entonces ella los besó, y ellos alzaron su voz y lloraron.
"Y dijo: He aquí que tu cuñada ha vuelto a su pueblo y a sus dioses; vuelve tú en pos de tu cuñada.
Y Ruth dijo: "No me pidas que te deje, ni que vuelva de seguirte, porque a donde tú vayas, iré yo, y donde tú te alojes, yo me alojaré; tu pueblo será mi pueblo, y tu Dios mi Dios".
Ruth y su cuñada eran ambas gentiles de Moab. La cuñada de Rut había decidido volver a su antigua vida y dioses; pero, Rut eligió quedarse con su suegra Noemí y seguir al Dios de Abraham, Isaac y Jacob como su Dios... similar a lo que Rahab la ramera había hecho en Jericó.
Entra Boaz, el pariente redentor
Ruth 2
"Había un pariente del marido de Noemí, un hombre de gran riqueza, de la familia de Elimelech. Se llamaba Boaz.
Entonces Rut la moabita dijo a Noemí: Por favor, déjame ir al campo y recoger cabezas de grano en pos de aquel en cuya vista pueda hallar gracia. Y ella le dijo: Ve, hija mía.
Y ella se fue, y fue a espigar en el campo en pos de los segadores. Y llegó a la parte del campo que pertenecía a Boaz, que era de la familia de Elimelech".
Boaz acepta ser el pariente redentor
Ruth 3
"Y ahora, hija mía, no temas, haré contigo todo lo que quieras, porque toda la ciudad de mi pueblo sabe que eres una mujer virtuosa.
Y ahora es cierto que soy tu pariente más cercano; aunque hay un pariente más cercano que yo.
Quédate esta noche, y será por la mañana, que si él te hace la parte de un pariente, bien, que haga la parte del pariente; pero si no te hace la parte de un pariente, entonces yo te haré la parte de un pariente, como vive el Señor: acuéstate hasta la mañana." (versículos 11-13)
Noemí había enviado a Rut a Boaz para rogarle que fuera el pariente redentor. Como hombre honorable, estaba dispuesto a cumplir con su deber de pariente.
Boaz redime la tierra del marido de Noemí y toma a Rut como esposa también...
Ruth 4
"Entonces Boaz dijo: El día que compres el campo de la mano de Noemí, debes comprarlo también de Rut la moabita, la esposa del muerto, para levantar el nombre del muerto sobre su herencia.
Y el pariente dijo: No puedo redimirlo para mí, no sea que estropee mi propia herencia; redime mi derecho a ti mismo, porque no puedo redimirlo".
"Y Boaz dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo: Vosotros sois testigos hoy de que he comprado todo lo que era de Elimelec, y todo lo que era de Quelión y Mahlón, de la mano de Noemí.
Además, he comprado a Rut la moabita, la esposa de Mahlon, para que sea mi esposa, para levantar el nombre del muerto sobre su herencia, para que el nombre del muerto no sea cortado de entre sus hermanos y de la puerta de su lugar: sois testigos hoy."
" Boaz tomó a Ruth, y ella fue su esposa, y cuando entró en ella, el Señor le dio a luz, y ella dio a luz un hijo, "
"Y las mujeres de sus vecinos le dieron un nombre, diciendo: Un hijo le nació a Noemí, y le llamaron Obed. Es el padre de Isaí, el padre de David."
Boaz no sólo redimió la tierra del marido judío de Noemí, sino que también redimió a la gentil Rut... ...así como un día el Mesías Jesús sería el redentor tanto para los judíos como para los gentiles. Hemos sido adoptados por el Padre y redimidos de una deuda de pecado que no podíamos pagar por nuestro pariente redentor Jesucristo.
Jesus in the Wilderness | Jesús en el Desierto
"Marvelous things did He in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters to stand as a heap. In the daytime also He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers."
Psalm 78:12-16
This passage from Psalm 78 is retelling the marvelous things that the Lord had done for the Children of Israel during their exodus from Egypt and while wandering in the wilderness. The Lord' s goodness to Israel during their journey to the Promised Land is also praised in Psalm 114... a psalm that is sung as part of the Passover meal. But, it is not until New Testament revelation that we clearly see the extent of Jesus' presence in the wilderness with them.
Christ was with the Children of Israel in the Wilderness
I Corinthians 10:1-4
"Moreover, brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."
As the Children of Israel journeyed to the Promised Land, it was Christ that was with them. He was the spiritual Rock that followed them and sustained them. It is through both Old Testament and New Testament events and revelation that we receive a fuller understanding of just how wonderful a God and Savior we have. So, don't neglect your Old Testament reading; and, keep your eyes open for more of Jesus' appearance in them.

Salmo 78:12-16
Este pasaje del Salmo 78 está relatando las cosas maravillosas que el Señor había hecho por los Hijos de Israel durante su éxodo de Egipto y mientras vagaban por el desierto. La bondad del Señor con Israel durante su viaje a la Tierra Prometida también es alabada en el Salmo 114... un salmo que se canta como parte de la comida de la Pascua. Pero, no es hasta la revelación del Nuevo Testamento que vemos claramente el alcance de la presencia de Jesús en el desierto con ellos.
Cristo estuvo con los Hijos de Israel en el desierto
I Corintios 10:1-4
"Además, hermanos, no quiero que ignoréis que todos nuestros padres estuvieron bajo la nube, y todos pasaron por el mar; y todos fueron bautizados a Moisés en la nube y en el mar; y todos comieron la misma comida espiritual; y todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, porque bebieron de esa Roca espiritual que les seguía, y esa Roca era Cristo".
Mientras los hijos de Israel viajaban a la Tierra Prometida, era Cristo quien estaba con ellos. Él era la Roca espiritual que los seguía y los sostenía. Es a través de los eventos y revelaciones tanto del Antiguo como del Nuevo Testamento que recibimos una comprensión más completa de cuán maravilloso es el Dios y Salvador que tenemos. Así que no descuides tu lectura del Antiguo Testamento y mantén los ojos abiertos para ver más de la aparición de Jesús en ellos.

"And He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me. Then He opened their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:44-45)
Many Christians have failed to recognize the importance of the first thirty-nine books of our Bible; and, as such, have failed to read or study them in any great detail. Some feel that, what is called, the Old Testament is a book from and for the past. Writings to the children of Israel, that, other than nice stories, poetry, and sayings, have little to offer the Christian, now that we have the New Testament books.
In reality, both the Old and New Testaments are one continuing and complementary story of who God is, what He is like, and the revelation of His plan for man. In the Old Testament, the focus is on the nature of God and on the coming Messiah through the lineage of Abraham, and their miraculous history. In the New Testament, the focus is on the fulfillment of the prophecies and promises found in the Old Testament. And, as we see from Jesus’s own words in our passage above, the Old Testament writings are key to our understanding of the Scriptures and Jesus Himself as well.
During the upcoming weeks, we will be taking a look at Old Testament passages that point us to Jesus and His mission. May you find this a blessing that encourages you to search all of Scripture in order to better understand its author... our Creator, Savior, and coming King.
In the beginning God...
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)
It is here, in the very first verse of the Old Testament, that we get our first glimpse of Jesus. In the original Hebrew, the word translated "God" is the word "elohim", which is a plural noun; and, it is used in conjunction and grammatical agreement with the singular Hebrew verb translated "created", It is from this unusual plural/singular pairing that we get an indication of the unique (and mystifying) nature of the Trinity (one singular God in a plural three Persons), which includes Jesus... and the Holy Spirit which is specifically mentioned in verse 2.
Let Us make man in Our image...
"And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness:... (Genesis 1:26)
"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." (Genesis 1:27)
In verse 26, once again the word translated "God" is the Hebrew plural noun "elohim"; and, this time it is followed by the plural pronouns "Us" and "Our". In verse 27, we see this plural noun "elohim" again being translated "God": but it is now followed by the singular pronouns "His" and "He"... Once again indicating the unique and mystifying nature of the Trinity... one singular God in a plural three Persons, including Jesus.

Muchos cristianos no han reconocido la importancia de los primeros treinta y nueve libros de nuestra Biblia; y, como tales, no los han leído o estudiado con gran detalle. Algunos sienten que, lo que se llama, el Antiguo Testamento es un libro del pasado y para el pasado. Escritos a los hijos de Israel, que, aparte de bonitas historias, poesía y dichos, tienen poco que ofrecer al cristiano, ahora que tenemos los libros del Nuevo Testamento.
En realidad, tanto el Antiguo como el Nuevo Testamento son una historia continua y complementaria de quién es Dios, cómo es y la revelación de su plan para el hombre. En el Antiguo Testamento, el enfoque está en la naturaleza de Dios y en el Mesías venidero a través del linaje de Abraham, y su historia milagrosa. En el Nuevo Testamento, el enfoque está en el cumplimiento de las profecías y promesas encontradas en el Antiguo Testamento. Y, como vemos en las propias palabras de Jesús en nuestro pasaje anterior, los escritos del Antiguo Testamento son clave para nuestra comprensión de las Escrituras y del propio Jesús.

Es aquí, en el primer versículo del Antiguo Testamento, donde tenemos nuestra primera visión de Jesús. En el hebreo original, la palabra traducida como "Dios" es la palabra "elohim", que es un sustantivo plural; y, se usa en conjunción y acuerdo gramatical con el verbo hebreo singular traducido como "creado", Es a partir de este inusual emparejamiento plural/singular que obtenemos una indicación de la naturaleza única (y desconcertante) de la Trinidad (un Dios singular en un plural de tres Personas), que incluye a Jesús... y al Espíritu Santo que se menciona específicamente en el versículo 2.
Hagamos al hombre a nuestra imagen...
"Y dijo Dios: Hagamos al hombre a nuestra imagen y semejanza... (Génesis 1:26)

En el versículo 26, una vez más la palabra traducida "Dios" es el sustantivo plural hebreo "elohim"; y, esta vez es seguido por los pronombres plurales "Nosotros" y "Nuestro". En el versículo 27, vemos que este sustantivo plural "elohim" es nuevamente traducido como "Dios": pero ahora es seguido por los pronombres singulares "Su" y "Él"... Una vez más indicando la naturaleza única y desconcertante de la Trinidad... un Dios singular en un plural de tres Personas, incluyendo a Jesús.

"Am I a God near at hand, says the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places so I shall not see him? says the LORD, Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the LORD." (Jeremiah 23:23-4 NKJV)
Long before the Lord spoke these words to Jeremiah, the Lord revealed His omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (present everywhere) nature in Psalm 139.
Where shall I go from Your Spirit?
Psalm 139:7-12
"Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hides not from You; but the night shines as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to You."
To the sinner, the thought of not being able to hide from God can be scary. But, to God's children it is comforting to know that we are never out of His sight and always in His hands. As such, we can confidently face each day knowing that we are safe in His care... even in the tough times when the world seems to be crumbling down around us.
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4)

Mucho antes de que el Señor le dijera estas palabras a Jeremías, el Señor reveló su naturaleza omnisciente (conocedora) y omnipresente (presente en todas partes) en el Salmo 139.
¿A dónde iré de tu espíritu?
Salmo 139:7-12
"¿A dónde iré de tu espíritu? ¿O adónde huiré de Tu presencia? Si subo al cielo, allí estás Tú; si hago mi cama en el infierno, he aquí que Tú estás allí. Si tomo las alas de la mañana y habito en los confines del mar, allí me guiará tu mano y me sostendrá tu diestra. Si digo: Ciertamente las tinieblas me cubrirán; incluso la noche me rodeará de luz. No te ocultan las tinieblas, sino que la noche resplandece como el día; las tinieblas y la luz se parecen a ti."
Para el pecador, la idea de no poder esconderse de Dios puede ser aterradora. Pero, para los hijos de Dios es reconfortante saber que nunca estamos fuera de su vista y siempre en sus manos. Como tal, podemos enfrentarnos con confianza cada día sabiendo que estamos seguros a su cuidado... incluso en los tiempos difíciles cuando el mundo parece derrumbarse a nuestro alrededor.
"Aunque camine por el valle de la sombra de la muerte, no temeré ningún mal, porque tú estás conmigo; tu vara y tu cayado me dan consuelo". (Salmo 23:4)

Psalm 119:129-136 | Salmo 119:129-136
"They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course." (Psalm 82:5)
"The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble." (Proverbs 4:19)
The path of the wicked is darkness. They lack understanding of reality. As we witness in our own society: the foundations are out of whack... evil is now considered good and good is considered evil. But, as we see in today's verses from Psalm 119 (and elsewhere), God's word is light in a darkened world that gives understanding and order to our steps that keeps us from stumbling.
Direct My Steps by Your Word
Psalm 119:129-36
"Your testimonies are wonderful: therefore my soul keeps them. The entrance of Your words give light; it gives understanding to the simple. I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for Your commandments. Look upon me, and be merciful unto me, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name. Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me. Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep Your precepts. Make Your face shine upon Your servant, and teach me Your statues. Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law." (NKJV)
The psalmist longs for God's word and grieves over the wickedness that he sees around him. His prayer is that the Lord teach him so that his steps would be guided by His word. Nothing has changed over the centuries. The world is still an ungodly place full of darkness and dangers: and, God still teaches His children, and His word still keeps them safe when they apply it to their lives.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)

El camino de los malvados es la oscuridad. No entienden la realidad. Como vemos en nuestra propia sociedad: los cimientos se han salido de su sitio... el mal se considera ahora bueno y el bien se considera malo. Pero, como vemos en los versos de hoy del Salmo 119 (y en otros lugares), la palabra de Dios es luz en un mundo oscurecido que da comprensión y orden a nuestros pasos, lo que nos evita tropezar.
Dirige mis pasos por tu palabra

"Sus testimonios son maravillosos: por eso mi alma los guarda. La entrada de tus palabras da luz; da comprensión a los sencillos. Abrí mi boca, y jadeé: porque anhelaba Tus mandamientos. Mírame y ten misericordia de mí, como es tu costumbre con los que aman tu nombre. Dirige mis pasos por tu palabra, y que ninguna iniquidad se enseñoree de mí. Redímeme de la opresión del hombre, para que pueda cumplir tus preceptos. Haz que tu rostro brille sobre tu siervo y enséñame tus estatuas. Ríos de agua corren de mis ojos, porque los hombres no guardan tu ley". (NKJV)
El salmista anhela la palabra de Dios y se aflige por la maldad que ve a su alrededor. Su oración es que el Señor le enseñe para que sus pasos sean guiados por su palabra. Nada ha cambiado a lo largo de los siglos. El mundo sigue siendo un lugar impío lleno de oscuridad y peligros: y, Dios sigue enseñando a sus hijos, y su palabra sigue manteniéndolos a salvo cuando la aplican a sus vidas.
"Tu palabra es una lámpara a mis pies, y una luz a mi camino." (Salmo 119:105)

"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; Whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and shall be in you.
...But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:15-17, 26)
While the Lord has given His church pastors, teachers, and more for the perfecting of the saints and for the building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-14), He has also given us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to teach us as well, and lead us to truth. As we will see in today's passage from Psalm 119, there are marvelous benefits to be had by letting His word and Spirit be our teacher.
I have not departed from Your judgments: for You have taught me.
Psalm 119:97-104
"O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You through Your commandments have made me wiser that my enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for Your testimonies are my Meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep Your word. I have not departed from Your judgments: for You have taught me. How sweet are Your words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through Your precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way."
With God's word as your foundation and His Spirit as your Teacher, you can be wiser than the enemy and understand more than that your earthly teachers. You will walk on the straight path; and, not be swayed by the wisdom of man or Satan's lies. God's classroom door is open; and, He is waiting for us to join Him.
"...If you continue in My word, then are you My disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32)

Salmo 119:97-104
"Si me amas, guarda mis mandamientos. Y yo rogaré al Padre, y os dará otro Consolador, para que esté con vosotros para siempre; el Espíritu de la verdad, al cual el mundo no puede recibir, porque no le ve ni le conoce; pero vosotros le conocéis, porque mora con vosotros y estará en vosotros.
...Pero el Consolador, que es el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, os enseñará todas las cosas, y os recordará todo lo que yo os he dicho". (Juan 14:15-17, 26)
Mientras que el Señor ha dado a su iglesia pastores, maestros y más para el perfeccionamiento de los santos y para la edificación del cuerpo de Cristo (Efesios 4:11-14), también nos ha dado la vida en el Espíritu Santo para enseñarnos y guiarnos a la verdad. Como veremos en el pasaje de hoy del Salmo 119, hay beneficios maravillosos que se pueden obtener al dejar que Su palabra y Su Espíritu sea nuestro maestro.
No me he apartado de tus juicios, porque tú me has enseñado.
Salmo 119:97-104
"¡Oh, cómo amo tu ley! Es mi meditación todo el día. Tú por tus mandamientos me has hecho más sabio que mis enemigos, porque siempre están conmigo. Tengo más entendimiento que todos mis maestros: porque Tus testimonios son mi meditación. Comprendo más que los antiguos, porque guardo Tus preceptos. He refrenado mis pies de todo mal camino, para cumplir Tu palabra. No me he apartado de Tus juicios, porque Tú me has enseñado. ¡Cuán dulces son tus palabras para mi gusto! Sí, más dulces que la miel para mi boca. A través de tus preceptos obtengo entendimiento: por eso odio todo camino falso".
Con la palabra de Dios como fundamento y su espíritu como maestro, puedes ser más sabio que el enemigo y entender más que tus maestros terrenales. Caminarás por el camino recto; y, no te dejes llevar por la sabiduría del hombre o las mentiras de Satanás. La puerta del aula de Dios está abierta; y, Él está esperando que nos unamos a Él.
"...Si permanecéis en mi palabra, sois verdaderamente mis discípulos; y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres." (Juan 8:31-32)
Pray for Our Nation | Reza por Nuestra Nación
"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:" (Psalm 146:3-5)
Today is an important day as we and the nation are blessed to be able to vote for our leaders. However, as Christians, our true hope is not in elected officials but in the Lord.
The Lord makes rulers and nations rise and fall
"Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His: And He changes the times and the seasons: He removes kings, and sets up kings: He gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:" (Daniel 2:20-21)
Although it is important that we vote and that our vote reflects our Christian values: we must keep in mind that it is the Lord that is in charge of history. Whatever the outcome, we are safe and secure in His hands.
Pray for our leaders and for our nation
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercession, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior." (I Timothy 2:1-3)
Even more important that our votes today are our prayers. May we make today a very special day of prayer for our nation.
"I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live." (Psalm 116:1-2)

Hoy es un día importante ya que nosotros y la nación tenemos la bendición de poder votar por nuestros líderes. Sin embargo, como cristianos, nuestra verdadera esperanza no está en los oficiales elegidos sino en el Señor.
El Señor hace que los gobernantes y las naciones se levanten y caigan
"Daniel respondió y dijo: Bendito sea el nombre de Dios por los siglos de los siglos, porque la sabiduría y el poder son suyos: Y Él cambia los tiempos y las estaciones: Quita los reyes, y establece reyes: Da sabiduría a los sabios, y conocimiento a los que conocen la inteligencia." (Daniel 2:20-21)
Aunque es importante que votemos y que nuestro voto refleje nuestros valores cristianos: debemos tener en cuenta que es el Señor quien está a cargo de la historia. Cualquiera que sea el resultado, estamos seguros y a salvo en sus manos.
Oren por nuestros líderes y por nuestra nación
"Exhorto, pues, a que, en primer lugar, se hagan súplicas, oraciones, intercesión y acciones de gracias por todos los hombres; por los reyes y por todos los que tienen autoridad, para que llevemos una vida tranquila y pacífica con toda piedad y honradez. Porque esto es bueno y aceptable a los ojos de Dios nuestro Salvador". (I Timoteo 2:1-3)
Aún más importante que nuestros votos de hoy son nuestras oraciones. Que hagamos de hoy un día muy especial de oración por nuestra nación.
"Amo al Señor, porque ha escuchado mi voz y mis súplicas. Porque ha inclinado su oído hacia mí, por lo tanto lo invocaré mientras viva." (Salmo 116:1-2)
