Three weeks of sheltering-in-place is 21 days to form new habits. So, I’m trying out a new routine: 1. This morning I read a devotion in Sarah Young’s book Jesus Calling and reflected on the scripture references. 2. Next, I completed a 15-minute yoga exercise for beginners on the Down Dog app, which is free until Apr. 1st. It was challenging because I’m such a newbie, but it also felt refreshing. 3. I took a prayer walk in my neighborhood. Just me walking at a brisk pace, giving thanks to God, and praying about what’s on my mind. Took about 25 minutes. 4. Back at home, I stretched and then closed out in prayer. What new habits or routines might you try over the next 21 days?
    1. Love this Sister Zandra!
    2. Thank you, Sis!
    3. This is amazing Sis Zandra!
  • I found comfort in these verses this morning. The first one the Spirit impressed upon me as a promise, and we know that the Lord is a promise keeper! The second one I read as a testimony and a reminder of how we get through times like these. “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.” ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:25‬ ‭NRSV‬‬ “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭28:7‬ ‭NRSV‬‬ Would you join me in meditating on these Scriptures today?
    1. In this season of social distancing, we are still called to come together and encourage one another as the Day approaches (Heb 10:25). Join me on Faithlife for weekly virtual fellowship! Post questions and commentary. Share pictures and stories about life events. Let's connect in sisterhood and in Christian love. In mid-February, I visited the San Luis Reservoir. What a beautifully serene area! I'd love to hear about some of the places or things that give you a sense of peace.
      1. (I wish I understood my iPhone well enough to enlarge this photo transmission to do this scene justice but...) Nature — God’s work — gives me peace. On my morning walk Monday at 7 am, it was very dark because of the time change. But a very large full moon hung so brilliantly in the sky that I stopped, entranced and full of awe and thanksgiving.
      2. Wow! That is beautiful! I can see why it felt peaceful. I often feel closest to God early in the morning. Thanks for sharing! 😘

      Dear University Women,

Please join me on Sunday, November 24th immediately following service for a time of fellowship and laughter. We'll meet at Ada's Cafe, a nonprofit coffee bar on Middlefield Rd. that employs people with disabilities, and enjoy friendly, casual conversation. Ada's Cafe has a pretty nice menu, so in case you'd like to purchase a beverage and/or a bite to eat, you can preview their offerings here

      Ada's Cafe

      3700 Middlefield Rd.

      Palo Alto, CA 94303

I hope to see you on the 24th! You're welcome to stop by, but if you know you're going to attend, would you please RSVP? This will give me a general sense of how many people to expect and may enable me to reserve seating.

      In Christ,

Free of Me: Why Life is Better When It's Not About You, by Sharon Hodde Miller

We live in a culture that's all about self, becoming the best "me" I can be instead of becoming like Jesus. This me-centered message affects every area of our lives--our friendships, our marriages, even our faith--and it breaks each one in different ways. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we never quite break free of insecurity.

In this book, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision--one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more. She helps readers

        - identify the secret source of insecurity

        - understand how self-focus sabotages seven areas of our lives

        - learn four practical steps for focusing on God and others

        - experience freedom from the burden of self-focus
