I have a question. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it. If not, please direct me to the right place.
Why does James encourage us to ask God for wisdom in 1:5, right after verses 1-4?
- Hi Diana, such a great question. Solomon asked God for wisdom and God granted it to him in 1 Kings 3 and proverbs says to seek wisdom Proverbs chapter 4, chapter 8, and chapter 16. James, growing up, would have read the Hebrew bible or what we call the Old Testament and either from knowledge or experiencing God directly, understood that wisdom comes from God and thus made the statement in James 1. Tune in to ebcfaith.com/livestream on Tuesdays at 7PM. The online audience gets to interact and ask questions. I love it! Great outlet for those of us with questions.
- Wisdom in James 1 is presented as an opportunity to ask God for wisdom for a specific event or situation. It's not necessarily a "general" petition for all-encompassing wisdom.
- Thank you!
